Bangladesh Update, aid to children continues
Bangladeshi children will not return to school until 12 September at the earliest. A sharp rise in cases of covid-19 in Bangladesh has led to further postponement of school openings over the holidays, as well as a strict national lockdown. The watchword of the day is to be patient and endure. With your support, we believe we can do it.
-> Children in village and boarding schools
We continue to distribute food to children's families in village schools. Village teachers visit and teach the children individually, encouraging families to persevere. The continuity of teaching and supportive social links is thus successfully ensured. This help is immensely appreciated by children and parents alike.
There are 205 BanglaKids children in boarding schools, with more than 600 others staying at home. Under strict hygiene measures, limited teaching is taking place at the schools, but the basic needs of the children are being met. We send funds to families of children who are at home to buy food through the mobile network.
-> Vaccinations, not just for teachers
Teachers in all schools are continuously vaccinated. We are also pleased that the BANC boarding school, has all students vaccinated, reportedly the first in Bangladesh. This too is a way to reopen educational institutions.
Thank you for your steadfast love, solidarity and willingness to help. Thanks to you, just over 1,400 Bangladeshi children have enough to eat today.
Sincerely,
Your BanglaKids Team
-> COVID-19 and school closures in Bangladesh
Schools were closed in Bangladesh on 17 March 2020. Since then, the government has announced around 20 dates for their reopening, but developments in the covid-19 situation have not favoured their reopening. Currently, the schools are closed till September 12, 2021.
