2013: Sandals for children from slum schools
More than three hundred children from slum schools in Bangladesh have received sandals with the support of Czech sponsors. Most of them had not had any shoes until then – they had either walked completely barefoot or shared the shoes with their siblings. „The children were very happy when they got the sandals. Some of them even danced of joy,“ said Zonathon Sarkar, local coordinator of slum schools. „I also saw children throwing away they old, completely destroyed shoes right after they'd got the new ones,“ said Sarkar. According to the parents, some of the children even went to bed in their new sandals.
A total of 319 children, 184 girls and 135 boys were given new sandals.back
